Lawrenceville's Memorial Day parade carries decades of history
LAWRENCEVILLE, Pa. (KDKA) -- The Memorial Day celebration in Lawrenceville is one of the biggest in the area, with some saying it dates back 150 years.Here is a picture from the Allegheny Cemetery of Civil War veterans marching in the parade in 1918.And here is one from a few decades later showing veterans in 1937.This year the parade had 65 entries. After the 10-block-long parade concluded, there were food trucks, live music, a classic car show and more.

Damage reported from severe thunderstorms in Pittsburgh area
Damage from Saturday's storms have caused road closures and power outages in the Pittsburgh area. The National Weather Service has received reports of trees and wires down in Beaver County, including along Route 65. The Baden Volunteer Fire Department said that both lanes of Route 65 between Logan Lane and State Street were closed due to storm debris. The road has since reopened.

South Hills Memorial Day Parade set to begin along Brookline Boulevard
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- One of the largest Memorial Day parades in all of the Pittsburgh area is set to get underway later this morning.The South Hills Memorial Day parade will kick off at 10:00 a.m. along Brookline Boulevard. Before the parade, Pittsburgh councilman Anthony Coghill will read a declaration marking the Brookline Memorial Cannon as a historic monument.Three rounds will be fired, 'Taps' will be played, and then the parade will begin.Miss Pennsylvania, veterans from World War II, and five costumed characters including the Pirate Parrot and Iceburgh will be among those marching in today's parade, which is in its 90th year. Horses from the Allegheny County Police Department's mounted unit will also be in the parade and a low-level flyover from the Air Force Reserve's 911th Airlift Wing is set to take place around 10:30 a.m.

Drying out for Sunday
PITTSBURGH — The widespread storms have exited, so only isolated severe storms are expected through sunset. Rain will taper off overnight with areas of dense fog possible Sunday morning. Clouds will increase late on Sunday as rain is possible after 8pm. Periods of rain will be around during Memorial Day, so not a washout, and an afternoon storm can't be ruled out. Just like today, wind and rain are the primary concerns, and Monday is now upgraded to a Severe Weather Alert Day. Showers will be intermittent through Wednesday when we finally dry out and will be more seasonal into the first weekend of June.
Crash brings down power lines, shuts down part of McKnight Road
UPDATE 11:10 p.m. According to Duquesne Light Company, there are no longer power outages in Ross Township. UPDATE 7:20 p.m. - As of 7:20 p.m. Duquesne Light was showing 980 power outages in Ross Township. A portion of a busy Ross Township road is because of power lines across the roadway.
Mounted police units offer tradition, spectacle and service in modern law enforcement
On Monday, the Allegheny County Mounted Police Unit will add a touch of tradition and spectacle to the South Hills Memorial Day Parade. While officers on horseback are a rarer sight than those in cars or on motorcycles, “They definitely create a presence,” said Sgt. Jason Donaldson of the Allegheny County Police Department’s Mounted Patrol Unit.

Pittsburgh Pirates host third annual Family Walk to raise awareness for mental health
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Pittsburgh Pirates are raising awareness for mental health with their third annual Family Walk.Friends, players, coaches, and fans laced up their sneakers to walk in support of bettering the mental wellness of our community."The first thing we want to remind people is it's okay to say you are not okay; it's okay to seek help. That's what we are doing with AHN, the Chill Mobile, and other programs we are doing. Raising that awareness," said Travis Williams, President of the Pittsburgh Pirates.More than 1,000 people walked from the riverfront, down the rotunda, through the concourse, and then took to the field, all to raise awareness.According to the National Alliance of Mental Illness, nearly 60 million people experienced a form of mental illness in 2021."If you struggle with it, there's always someone to talk to. Don't be afraid to reach out," added Pirates pitcher Jared Jones.
