Closures and lane restrictions to be put in place on two heavily traveled Pittsburgh bridges beginning this week
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Inspection and work will begin on two heavily traveled bridges in the Pittsburgh area soon. First, overnight inspection work will begin on the Fort Pitt Bridge tonight. The work will require a single-lane restriction on the lower deck of the bridge and that work will take place through Thursday night from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. Associated on and off-ramps may have minor lane restrictions, but the bridge will remain open at all times throughout. Also, beginning on Monday, June 17, drivers who use the Rankin Bridge will need to be aware of a closure. The ramp between South Braddock Avenue and Kenmawr/Braddock Avenue will shut down. Kenmawr Avenue will be reduced to a single lane in each direction between Carrie Furnace Boulevard and Braddock Avenue. That work, and the closures, are expected to be finished in December.

Pittsburgh Pirates host clinic for veterans, active-duty military service members
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Before their game on Sunday, the Pirates hosted a clinic for veterans and active-duty military service men and women on the North Shore.Dozens showed up with their families to take part in batting practice and catch some fly balls on the perfectly manicured outfield.Team officials say it is the least they can do to give back to those who've served our country."This is a great event for us. To be able to not only support the military throughout the course of the entire year but also bring them out and have a fun event here at PNC Park. It's a lot of fun for all these military men and women [and we're] really excited to be able to provide this type of event for them," said team president Travis Williams.After the clinic, they were treated to brunch and given tickets to the game.

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato responded to public criticism from county Republican Committee Chairman Sam DeMarco about her new housing program which is meant to help the homeless, saying he was spreading misinformation online.
