Talbot County Council recognizes Easton student for SWAT design

EASTON — On Tuesday evening, the Talbot County Council presented Blake Newton, a student at Easton High School, with a certificate of recognition for designing the logo for the Critical Response Unit, a division of the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office and Easton Police Department.

The logo will be used to identify members of the Critical Response Unit Team, commonly known as SWAT. This group consists of members of the Sheriff’s Office and Easton Police Department who operate on an on-call status and respond to high-risk incidents.

In addition, Susan Ahlstrom, Human Trafficking regional navigator at For All Seasons, a Behavior Health and Rape Crisis Center, accepted a proclamation from the county recognizing April 2024 as National Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

This proclamation aims to raise public awareness about sexual violence and to educate communities about how to prevent it. For All Seasons is the only Rape Crisis Center serving Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s and Talbot counties.

At the meeting, the Talbot County Council also:

Unanimously approved Bill No. 1552, exempting Thompson Park in the Town of Easton from the 500-foot public park setback requirement for liquor licenses for offsite consumption.Unanimously approved Director of Finance Martha Sparks’ request for 4th Quarter Transfers that focus on purchasing capital outlay items. The transfers totaled to $871,572.Unanimously approved Bid No. 24-04 for $350,440 to renovate shower stalls and plumbing at the Department of Corrections.Unanimously approved Bid No. 24-05 for the printing of the 2024 Talbot County Travel Guide to APG Chesapeake Inc. for $52,451.
