EASTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – A swarm of bees was caught on camera outside CitySpace in Easthampton on Monday.

The images shared by the organization show the cluster of honey bees gathered on the side of the entryway. It is known for honey bees to split a single colony into two or more during the spring. They will depart the nest and may be seen in a temporary cluster with a queen while 20 to 50 bees scout for a new location.

According to a comment on the post , a beekeeper took the queen and the honey bees to a new home in Northampton. The Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources says that there are approximately 6,500 beekeepers in the state who manage nearly 45,000 hives.

A hive of bees can produce several hundred pounds of honey a year by collecting nectar from flowers. The beekeepers collect an average of 500,000 pounds of honey each year.

CitySpace is located in the old Town Hall at 43 Main Street in Easthampton. It underwent a $6.9 million restoration project to create affordable space for arts organizations and creative businesses in one location in Easthampton’s Main Street Historic District.
