Letter: Hospital executive raises don’t make sense

Down East Community Hospital CEO Steve Lail and CFO Lynette Parr have each received approximately $100,000 raises over the 2020-2022 period, as reported by the hospital. However, since the union contract was up in October, they are only offering 1 percent increases to the nurses and technicians that work for them. How fair is that?

The union struck recently for two days for this and other issues including more staffing to handle the previous loss of workers. The nurses are trying to handle the extra load but say patients will suffer with only the smaller staff.

The hospital claims budget restrictions, of course, but then why the huge increase to the executives? That doesn’t make sense to this sometime patient.

Maybe it’s time for a regime change where fair play and common sense rule.
