Lottery says vendor will pay over $600k following Montana Millionaire issues
HELENA, Mont. - Lottery officials say they understand the public’s frustration after issues with this year’s Montana Millionaire ticket sales, and the vendor will be paying over half a million dollars to cover some costs. Montana Millionaire is one of the Montana Lottery's most anticipated games, with tickets recently selling out in a matter of hours. This year’s sales did not go to plan. “From my perspective, it was the worst scenario that we could have imagined,” said Montana Lottery Director Bob Brown. “You know what happened is not what was planned. Not what was expected. It was an issue that arose as we launched.” Bally’s Intralot, the vendor that runs Montana Millionaire for the state, recently moved the game to a new system. The system experienced significant technical issues early on. When it came back online, it triggered instant wins at a much higher rate than it should have. Montana Millionaire is offering 720,000 tickets with six grand prizes of a million dollars. Of the 12,947 tickets sold on Sunday, 991 were $100 instant wins and 1,019 were $500 instant wins. That equates to $608,600 in total prize money, which is more than a quarter of the total instant
