Mizzou Tigers fall to SLU Billikens as celebrated series resumes after 25 years
Playing for the first time in a quarter-century at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis on Friday, the Missouri Tigers and Saint Louis Billikens went at it in what felt like an old-school men’s basketball showdown. It was a special game, as the two programs had not met in nearly 25 seasons. They’re non-conference foes — Mizzou plays in the Southeastern Conference, Saint Louis in the Atlantic 10 — but for many years they played an annual rivalry game steeped in Missouri hardwood tradition. The end-of-week showdown, made possible when the series was revived by MU coach Dennis Gates , was the second game of the season for both teams. It didn’t take long for Saint Louis to grab an early advantage the Billikens would never relinquish in beating Mizzou 90-84. All five Saint Louis starters scored in double figures, led by 17 points apiece from two juniors — forward Ishan Sharma and guard Amari McCottry. Missouri’s final lead of the night was early — 5-4.
