    Tuesday Roundup: The MVL's softball powers kept a firm grasp on their strongholds

    DUNCAN FALLS — Sydney Marshall struck out nine and worked around seven hits as visiting John Glenn softball stayed one game up on Sheridan in the Muskingum Valley League-Big School Division with a 3-0 win against Philo on Tuesday.

    All of the Muskies' runs were unearned off Electrics starter Kylie McGraw, who yielded nine hits and struck out two.

    Ava Miller had three singles and Marshall slugged a pair of doubles as John Glenn scored twice in the sixth to break open a 1-0 game. Estelle Matheney added two singles.

    Kylie Southall's two singles led Philo, which had no extra-base hits.

    Sheridan 24, River View 1: Megan Ranck tossed a three-hitter with five strikeouts as the host Generals improved to 18-3 overall and 11-2 in the MVL-Big.

    Addison Grosse's four singles led a 22-hit attack that also saw Avery Mueller plate three runs with a homer and single. Sheridan scored 12 times in the first inning.

    Mauri O'Brien tripled and singled, Mylie Forgrave doubled and singled and Cora Hall, Payton Powell, Hailey Mueller and Hayley Clifton added two singles for Sheridan, which hosts Small School Division leader Morgan on Thursday.

    Meadowbrook 13, Crooksville 1 (6 inn.): Mckendell Boyer tossed a three-hitter to back three home runs by the Colts offense in a home win against the Ceramics in the MVL-Small School Division.

    Brynn Lundell's leadoff homer sent Crooksville (11-10) to a 1-0 lead, but that was the end of the Ceramics' highlights. They had just two hits the rest of the game — a double from Lundell and a single from Gracie Peck.

    Dalena Rollison allowed two earned runs in three innings to take the loss. The Ceramics committed five errors.

    Hailey Fordyce had three hits, including a home run, with three RBIs and three runs scored, Boyer also homered and singled with three RBIs, Natalee Norman belted a home run and a double to knock in three runs, Alexx Combs added two hits and two RBIs and Sommer Ginn tripled for the Meadowbrook offense.

    Morgan 20, Coshocton 6: Chloe Baker drove in four runs with a three-run homer and two singles, as the visiting Raiders exploded for 16 runs in the final two innings in an MVL-Small School mercy.

    Myka Augenstein drove in three runs with a triple and single and Allia Rush blasted a homer and single for Morgan, which travels to Sheridan on Thursday. Malayni Clemens and Laney Kangas added doubles and Blair Clawson drew three walks.

    Clemens struck out seven and allowed one run in three innings to get the win. Six players notched singles for Coshocton.

    West Muskingum 9, New Lexington 4: Katelyn Foster broke the game open with a three-run homer in the fifth inning to send the Tornadoes to another win in the MVL-Small School.

    Mireyha Reese doubled and singled and Cadence Puckett singled twice for West, which had nine hits. Puckett, who struck out seven, went the distance to earn the win.

    Jorja Burkhart doubled with two singles out of the leadoff spot and Caroline Duper singled twice for New Lex. Abby Wilson took the loss.

    Tri-Valley 18, Maysville 4 (5 inn.): Paiton Murphy drove in five runs on two doubles and a single as the Scotties rolled to a mercy win in the MVL-Big School.

    Tri-Valley piled up 15 hits and scored 11 times in the first three innings as Caity Journey drove in three runs with a triple and Cydnee Wolford doubled with two singles. The Scotties' top three hitters in the order combined for seven hits and 10 RBIs.

    Larsyn Holdsworth tripled with two singles and Ally Peterson doubled and singled for Tri-Valley. Ashlyn Davis struck out six and allowed four earned runs in a complete game to get the win.

    Ayven Johnson tripled with two singles, Ashtyn Merlo had two singles and Kaelynne Mitton doubled for Maysville. Merlo took the loss.

    Rosecrans 20, Canal Winchester Harvest Prep 4: Emily Jenkins struck out 10 in a complete game to pace the host Bishops in a Mid-State League-Cardinal Division rout.

    The Bishops, who drew 21 walks, scored all of their runs in the first three innings. Jenkins, Ellie Worden and Mallory Moody collected doubles and Sam Delik and Serenaty Gibson singled twice for Rosecrans.

    Newcomerstown 22, Zanesville 0: The Devils failed to record a hit in a nonleague loss to the visiting Trojans.

    Ayawna Gladden pitched three innings to take the loss.

    Ridgewood 8, Garaway 7: Ava Kulbacki drove home Maggie Shannon with the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning, as the visiting Generals held on for a rousing Inter Valley Conference-South Division win against the rival Pirates.

    Kulbacki also had a triple and single to help power Ridgewood's 12-hit attack. Kaydence Lahna added a double and single and Shannon doubled; Addison Lahmers and Skylar Wright knocked in two runs apiece

    Lahna allowed only two earned runs in a complete game to get the win. She struck out seven and didn't walk a batter.

    The teams combined for 13 errors and nine unearned runs.

    Baseball

    Sheridan 10, River View 0 (5 inn.): Tyler Turnes scattered four hits in a complete game for the Generals, who scored eight times in the second inning of an MVL-Big School win on their home field.

    Turnes needed only 56 pitches as he threw 39 strikes. Brogan Shrimplin's two singles accounted for half of the Black Bears' hits.

    Caden Sheridan drove in two runs with a triple and single and Brody White doubled and singled for Sheridan; Monty Eden singled twice and Ryan Kuhn singled, walked and drove in two.

    Chase Wright suffered the loss.

    Meadowbrook 11, Crooksville 1 (5 inn.): Andy Hardy tossed a three-hitter for the host Colts in a mercy in the MVL-Small School Division.

    Crooksville took a 1-0 lead on Bo White's run-scoring groundout, but the Ceramics were shut down the rest of the way as Hardy struck out five and yielded only three singles.

    Four players drove in two runs for the Colts, who blew a 4-1 game open with seven runs in the fifth inning.

    Eli Sprankle slugged a double for Crooksville. White, who allowed five earned runs in four innings, took the loss.

    Tri-Valley 9, Maysville 0: Nathan Better had three hits and Gavin Harrold and Nash Baughman combined on a three-hitter as the visiting Scotties stayed two games up on Sheridan in the MVL-Big School Division.

    Harrold allowed one hit, walked five and struck out four in six innings as he made a 3-0 lead after three innings stand up.

    Better, who batted ninth, led the 13-hit offense with a triple, double and single; Kian Drummonds slugged two doubles and Harrold singled twice.

    Ryan Parmer, who pitched 1⅔ innings, took the loss. The Panthers managed just three singles.

    Strasburg 4, Buckeye Trail 3: The host Tigers broke a 3-3 tie with a run in the bottom of the sixth to hand the Warriors (9-5, 6-1 IVC) their first loss in IVC play on Tuesday.

    Sam Wayble took the pitching loss with a two inning relief role for Trail, allowing one run on two hits with two strikeouts.

    Buckeye Trail was limited to just three hits, with senior Cale Gazda turning in a 2-for-3 effort with a pair of singles, with sophomore Tyler Harrell contributed an RBI single. Junior Mason McQuain also singled for the Warriors.

    Morgan 14, Coshocton 5: Tavian Myers drove in three runs with a double and single for the visiting Raiders, who tallied 11 hits in an MVL-Small School win at Lake Park.

    Owen McCoy doubled and singled and Logan Niceswanger and Landon Gheen added two singles and Carson Mummey doubled and scored twice as Morgan built a 7-0 lead after two innings.

    Brylee Shannon pitched three scoreless innings to get the win.

    Coen Phillips and Cooper George drove in runs with singles for Coshocton, which committed five errors.

    Licking Valley 4, Zanesville 3 (8 inn.): Brody Lambert singled home the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning for the host Panthers in a Licking County League-Buckeye Division game.

    Hayden Rodgers pitched four innings of one-hit relief to get the win.

    Solomon Norris doubled and singled and Canon Mercer and Mahki Murray added two singles for Zanesville, which had 10 hits. Maddox Mohler and reliever Caleb Underwood, who pitched 3⅓ innings, combined to allow seven hits and four earned runs.

    Rosecrans 22, Canal Winchester Harvest Prep 0: The Bishops drew 17 walks in a Mid-State League-Cardinal Division win at Gant Municipal Stadium.

    Brendan Bernath drove in four runs with two singles and Coen Grandstaff singled home a pair of runs for Rosecrans. Hayden Perdue added a double.

    Grandstaff pitched three hitless, scoreless innings with five strikeouts to get the win..

    Sandy Valley 5, Ridgewood 4: Nick Petro doubled and scored the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth inning for the Cardinals in an Inter-Valley Conference-South Division game in West Lafayette.

    Ridgewood battled back from a 4-1 deficit with two runs in the fifth, then tied it at 4 when Jace McQueen scored on an error with two outs in the bottom of the seventh.

    Ridgewood had its leadoff hitter on in the bottom of the ninth, but a foiled sacrifice attempt and two consecutive outs ended the threat.

    Mason Kiser doubled and four others had singles for Ridgewood. Connor Croy struck out seven and yielded three earned runs in 7⅔ innings to take the loss.

    Boys Track

    John Glenn 74, Sheridan 61, Maysville 31: Caiden Lake won the 800 (2:06.4) and 1,600 (5:10.4) for the host Muskies in an MVL triangular.

    Cash Smith also won two events for John Glenn, taking the 110 hurdles (:16.24) and 300 hurdles (:43.30). Timo Borste won the 100 (:11.94), Alex Smith the pole vault (12-0) and Cameron House the 400 (:53.84); John Glenn also won the 4x100 (3,200 (10:38.2) and 4x800 (10:38.2).

    Drake Owen took the high jump (5-4), Ben Helsel won the 3,200 (12:22.8), Cole Davis the shot (42-11 1/2) for Sheridan; the Generals also won the 4x200 (1:38.0) and 4x400 (3:49.1)

    Owen Rusnack claimed the 200 (:24.34), Mat Harper took the long jump (19-2 1/2) and Connor Young the discus (117-6) for Maysville, which also won the 4x100 (:45.81).

    Philo 76, New Lex 52, Crooksville 34: Aidan Mahon picked up wins in the 200, 400, high jump and long jump for the visiting Electrics in a triangular win in McLuney.

    Mahon reached 20-10 in the long jump and 6-2 in the high jump; he took the 200 in :23.21 and 400 in :51.42. Tyler Looker won the shot (35-7) and discus (111-1) and Deacon Scott the 110 hurdles (:16.16) for Philo; Philo also won the 4x800 relay (10:07.9).

    Carson Kellogg won the 100 (:11.56), Myles Wilson the 300 hurdles (:45.68) Ethan Clark the 800 (2:26.5) and Zander Miller the 3,200 (12:26.8) for New Lex, which also took the 4x400 relay (4:20.4).

    Crooksville won the 4x100 (:45.33) and 4x200 (1:35.0) relays.

    Girls Track

    John Glenn 94, Sheridan 45⅔, Maysville 24⅓: Ava Hoffman won the high jump (5-2) and long jump (16-3 1/2) to lead the host Muskies to a pair of triangular wins.

    Jessica Church won the 100 (:13.23), Brea Wilfong the 400 (1:060), Kira Kaiser the 1,600 (5:40.2), Teegan Walrath (:17.82), Courtney Barnhart the 300 hurdles (:52.46) and Chelsea Sotherden the shot (37-2) for John Glenn. Brayden Snider added a win in the pole vault (12-6).

    Emily Jones won the 200 (:29.43), Beckett Strong the 800 (2:28.6) and Lily Dennis the discus (121-1) for Sheridan, which won three of the four relays.

    Maysville won the 4x100 relay (:54.97).

    Philo 78, New Lex 34, Crooksville 30: Avery Mahon won the 400 (1:12.6) and high jump (4-6) for the Electrics, who also won three relays in a triangular in McLuney.

    Halli Harris won the long jump (16-6), Emily Stockdale the shot (25-7) and Autumn Rinderle the discus (82-7) for Philo; the Electrics also won the 4x800 (10:07.9), 4x200 (1:49.9) and 4x400 (5:07.5).

    Jocelynn Bowen took the 100 hurdles (:16.30) and 100 (:13.0) and was second to Philo's Makenna Staker (:49.60) in the 300 hurdles for New Lex. Bowen clocked at :50.35.

    Isabella Starlin won the 200 (:28.76) and the 4x100 relay also won for New Lex.

    Grace Sheets won the 800 (2:38.9) and Hannah Sheets the 1,600 (5:59.6) for Crooksville.

    Boys Tennis

    Cambridge 5, Hiland 0: The Bobcats improved to a sizzling 13-2 record with the road sweep over the Hawks on Tuesday afternoon.

    Markel Villapalos took a 7-5, 6-2 over Jackson Mullet in first singles action, while in second single Blade Bachmann beat Corban Miller 6-1, 6-1. Caleb Stanberry completed the singles sweep with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Tom Leinbach.

    Cambridge's number one doubles team of James Goggin and Smith Sylvis collected an  6-2, 4-6, 6-1 win over Alex Jones and Charlie Kellogg. The Bobcat’s second doubles team of Baylon  Rose and Jacob Vincent won 6-4, 6-2 over Sam Anderson and Ryan Yoder.

    In JV  action Cambridge first dubs team of Jax Van Dyne and Ian Martin lost 4-6. Second JV doubles Ezekiel Bergeson and Cole Myers lost 2-6.
