The Leah Ryan Fund Reveals PING PONG PLAY as the Winner of the 2024 Leah Prize
1 Rachel Webb Will Lead & JULIET Tour; Full Dates Announced!. The Leah Ryan Fund has announced the winner of the 2024 Leah Prize, Kaela Mei-Shing Garvinʼs Ping Pong Play. In Garvin’s play Yining and Anjali, best friends and competitive ping pong players, try to keep up with each other at the end of the world. Told non-chronologically, the work imagines a speculative future informed by our present, with militarism and climate change shaping how Yining and Anjali can connect. The play will have a public reading during Vassar Collegeʼs Powerhouse Theater Season (June 21st to July 28th) on their campus in Poughkeepsie, NY on June 29th.
Avery Duer ‘24 shines in senior organ concert
On Sunday, May 5th, 2024, over 100 members of the Vassar and greater Poughkeepsie community gathered in Skinner Hall to attend Avery Duer’s ‘24 senior organ recital. The acclaimed musician, who has gathered numerous accolades—such as winning the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra Concerto competition and first prize for the Connecticut Bach Competition—is well-known around Vassar for her musicianship skills. She has music directed numerous theater productions, toured Europe with the Vassar choir and played organ for the nearby Trinity Episcopal Church. Occasionally, she even appears with her famous keytar at house shows. To say that her senior recital, a culmination of her musical ventures at Vassar, was highly anticipated, would be a drastic understatement.

Grace Dietrich Takes Center Stage
Grace Dietrich will soon grace the stage at Stissing Center as the lead in the new play “Upstate Untitled.” At 92, Dietrich embodies the character Gloria, an elderly woman confronting the complexities of aging and independence while resisting a move to an assisted living facility. The play, written by veteran playwright Robert Lyons, mirrors aspects of Dietrich’s own life, though Lyons maintains it is a fictional story drawn from various inspirations.
