South Central student receives WISHING scholarship
A South Central High School senior has been named one of the first high school recipients of a scholarship awarded by Women in Sports Helping Inspire the Next Generation (WISHING). Jade Brown is among four winners who each received the $1,000 scholarship, which was open to seniors participating in the program and is intended to assist students as they pursue a career in sports at a college or university. Scholarships were awarded based on academic achievement, leadership and involvement in their community. The students will be able to stay connected and involved in WISHING during their time in college. Brown plans to attend North Carolina Central University in Durham to pursue a career in kinesiology/sports medicine. She will intern in the acute physical therapy department at ECU Health Medical Center. WISHING strives to level the playing field for all women by providing career exploration opportunities through mentorship, job shadowing, and scholarships.

The search continues for a Lenoir County teen who disappeared 23 years ago, and investigators say the believe they know who took the then-16-year-old from her mother’s home.
