WINTERVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — One student in Winterville is using his knowledge and experiences to change people’s financial outlook.

Michael Brode, a senior at The Oakwood School, founded “Crypto Debunked,” an immersive learning platform that teaches young people about financial topics such as cryptocurrency and blockchain.

Brode wants to bridge the financial education gap between people in big cities and others in rural areas, solving the education gap young people face in underserved communities. He grew up in a population that lived at or below the poverty level and saw this as a way to use financial literacy to create new wealth-building opportunities and foster an entrepreneurial mindset.”

He pitched his idea at the Prudential Emerging Visionaries event and won $10,000 on top of the $5,000 each student was awarded.
