Hoisington has special vehicle permits available for city use
The City of Hoisington announced they have 2024 special vehicle permits in stock. The city has requirements that allow citizens to drive golf carts and special-use vehicles throughout town. City Manager Jonathan Mitchell said along with golf carts, there are residents that drive worksite utility vehicles or micro utility trucks.
Senior Food Box Program serves Russell County
RUSSELL – The Kansas Food Bank along with USDA is providing monthly food boxes to low income seniors. The Commodity Supplemental Food Program is available in Russell County at the Otterbein United Methodist Church – Agape Family Center to persons age 60 and above who qualify by meeting income requirements.
Four area wrestlers celebrate weekend with state championships
The Ball dynasty has come to an end at Hoisington High School. At least on the wrestling mat. For more than a decade, the five Ball brothers - Brandon, Jonathan, Christopher, Joshua, and Josiah - have been piling up state championships and medals. Heading into Saturday's Class 3-2-1A finale, only Josiah lacked a state title. Each year the foundation awards several scholarships to students pursuing a career in the healthcare field. Lady Eagles Lose to Hoisington in Sub State
Things didn’t go well for the Kingman girl’s basketball team in its first-round Class 3A Sub State game at Hoisington Tuesday. The Lady Eagles turned the ball over multiple times and fell behind 18-0 in the first three minutes. Kingman never recovered and lost 71-26, ending its season with a 4-17 overall record.
Derrick bringing mascots back at Central Plains High School
The mascot is trying to make a comeback at the high school level. When USD 112 Central Plains was created more than a decade ago, officials were looking for a unique mascot fitting for the area. As the Oilers, the CPHS logo has featured an oil derrick from day one. In August, CPHS introduced Derrick the mascot. Parent Teacher Organization Vice President Karla Hurley said he's a great representation of the oilfield workers in the area.
Sacred Heart Girls Dominant in Sub-State Win Over Lincoln
The Sacred Heart Lady Knights hosted Lincoln on Monday night in the opening round of the Alma-Wabaunsee 2A Substate and never trailed in the game, collecting a 65-12 win. The Lady Knights scored the first 13 points while holding the Lady Leopards scoreless through the opening eight minutes. Lincoln continued to struggle from the field and found themselves looking up at a 30-0 deficit at halftime.
