DOLTON, Ill. — FBI agents visited Thornton Township offices in the south suburbs, one week to the day after they made a similar Friday afternoon stop at Dolton Village Hall. Both governments are run by embattled politician Tiffany Henyard.

WGN Investigates has learned the township subpoenas seek financial and employment records as well as specific information about several people close to Henyard.  She is the supervisor of Thornton Township as well as the mayor of Dolton.

An FBI spokesperson would not comment on the investigation.  FBI agents also served wide-ranging subpoenas at Dolton village hall on April 19 seeking records related to the employment of more than a dozen workers as well as information about Henyard’s top aide in the village and township, Keith Freeman.

Freeman was arraigned on Wednesday on a federal charge that he committed bankruptcy fraud by failing to report his income from Dolton.  He entered a not guilty plea.  “We’ve had a couple of questions directed to me about whether this indictment is the government trying to squeeze Mr. Freeman into cooperation and I think that question is a better question for the government,” Freeman’s attorney Josh Herman told reporters.

Henyard’s publicity agency did not immediately respond to requests for comment.  However, following the FBI’s visit to Dolton earlier this month she posted on Facebook:  “To all you clowns thats [sic] apart [sic] of the circus. Misery needs company, I pray for you all.  Stop chasing Fake News.”
