Greasy Creek Bridge on 127 Bypass to be Temporarily Closed Tuesday Night

The bridge over Greasy Creek on U.S. 127 Bypass just south of Jamestown will be temporarily closed Tuesday night, Nov. 10th, as crews perform routine maintenance operations. Beginning Thursday, November 5th, the bridge will be reduced to one lane, with traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals. Teamsters are organizing Fayette County school bus drivers and workers

Steve Fightmaster, a representative from the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, on Monday told Fayette school board members that the district’s bus drivers and workers want to join the union and begin negotiations for collective bargaining. Fightmaster told the Herald-Leader a collective bargaining agreement is between workers and their employer — in this case classifications within the Fayette schools transportation department and FCPS. “Collective bargaining brings the folks that do the work every day to the table to negotiate wages, benefits, and working conditions/rules. It gives them a voice in their workplace, creates stability, and allows them to have a real say in their jobs,” he said. The Teamster’s website says the Teamsters are America’s largest, most diverse union with 1.3 million members nationwide — including nearly 30,000 members in Kentucky alone. “ Not only am I here on behalf of Teamsters Local 783; but, more importantly, I am here on behalf of your employees in the Transportation Department,” Fightmaster told the school board at Monday’s monthly meeting. “For the past few months, I have had the privilege of working alongside these folks: hearing their fears, their hardships, and their successes.
