WACS Appoints Former Fredonia Police Officer as School Safety Advisor
A former Fredonia Police officer was recently appointed to serve as the School Safety Advisor for the Westfield Academy and Central School. Nathan Scriven is a graduate of Mayville Central School and Jamestown Community College and later enrolled in the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Academy. He then began his career in law as a full-time police officer with the former Chautauqua Institution Police Department while also working part-time with the Westfield Police Department. Scriven later served 20 years with the Fredonia Police Department, during which he was a member of the Chautauqua County Forensic Investigation Team, Evidence Custodian and achieved the rank of Sergeant. He also served seven years as the School Resource Officer for the Fredonia Central School District.

Traffic Stop Results in Arrest of Dunkirk Man for Possession of Cocaine and Marijuana
A Dunkirk man was taken into custody on felony drug charges after a traffic stop in the city on Wednesday. Dunkirk Police Chief Dave Ortolano says his patrol officers pulled over a vehicle shortly after 2:45 AM and found that 40-year-old Jorge Negron-Velazquez was allegedly found to be in possession of 128 grams of suspected cocaine, 8.5 ounces of marijuana, and $427 in cash. Negron-Velazquez was charged with 2nd-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and 1st-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance. He was arraigned in Dunkirk City Court and remanded to the Chautauqua County Jail.
