The Detroit Lions have added another tight end a week after signing Parker Hesse. They also waived once of their undrafted free agents too. The Lions are signing former Cowboys tight end Sean McKeon and waiving rookie Isaac Rex.

McKeon is a low key solid signing on the blocking tight end front and has a real shot to make this roster as the teams tight end two or three with his ability.

The former Michigan Wolverine spent the last four seasons with the Cowboys and hasn't done much pass catching at all. He has six total receptions for 38 yards and a touchdown in 45 career games.

Where he was really good was essentially as a fifth offensive lineman. He has elite level pass blocking grades from Pro Football Focus. He had 79.2 grade in 2023 and an 80 grade in 2022. There's real reason to believe that he could be on the Lions roster when Week 1 rolls around.

The Lions are set with Sam LaPorta and Brock Wright, but there's questions outside of them with James Mitchell and Shane Zylstra. We'll see what happens at training camp in July.

As for Rex, it was always a long shot for him. He was able to get signed as an undrafted rookie, but he struggled at rookie mini-camp and the Lions decided to move on. He'll likely get other opportunities with teams that are more looking for pass catching tight ends.
