A new Spanish restaurant is quietly in the works at 2720 Brush St . A new concept by the creative minds behind the popular eatery Shelby , Leña is anticipated to open in the early spring of 2024, according to a social media post .

Created by Chef Mike Conrad and Chef de Cuisine Matt Tulpa , Leña is the Spanish word for firewood. The restaurant will feature a Spanish-inspired, including a wide variety of pintxos, tapas and shared plates. “At Leña, our open fire isn’t just for show—it’s where culinary magic happens,” says an earlier social media post.

Rated as one of Detroit’s most anticipated restaurants this spring by Eater , Leña will pull inspirations from Catalan and Basque. Those hoping to get a sneak peek of the menu can attend the ‘Pintxos and Porrons’ Pop Up at Shelby, which will showcase a few unique tapas from Leña’s menu.

The restaurant is also crafting the perfect interiors to match the dining experience. From rustic accents highlighting wood’s natural grains to the inviting open-kitchen layout that turns cooking into an eye-catching performance. The space also features light wood and bamboo counters and furniture, as well as large windows allowing natural sunlight to fill the dining area.

“Our concept celebrates the time-honored traditions of Catalunya and the Basque region, where wood-fired delights and Mediterranean warmth unite to create unforgettable dining experiences,” the team shared on the restaurant’s Instagram, “With no barriers between you and our culinary craftsmen, you’ll have a front-row seat to the action, from the crackling flames to the final presentation.”

What Now Detroit reached out to Chef Conrad but hadn’t heard back by the time of this coverage.
