DES MOINES, Iowa — An arrest has been made in a deadly motorcycle accident that happened last month on Des Moines’ east side.

Kristofer Zech

Kristofer Zech, 35, has been charged with homicide by vehicle-OWI in the March 30th crash that claimed the life of Spencer Rush, 22. Zech was booked into the Polk County Jail on Wednesday night. He is also charged with failure to yield upon left turn.

Sgt. Paul Parizek with the Des Moines Police Department said Rush was operating a motorcycle westbound on E. Grand Avenue when Zech tried to turn left from eastbound E. Grand Ave. to Northbound E. 13th Street and the vehicles collided. Evidence indicates Zech failed to yield the right right of way to Rush.

Zech was also found to be impaired by alcohol at the time of the crash.

Police have determined that excessive speed was not a significant contributing factor in the collision.
