DES MOINES, Iowa — It’s swarm season and that means bees are waking up after winter and looking for new places to set up a hive. Des Moines Backyard Beekeepers is a group that you can call to collect a swarm if they choose your backyard to build a hive.

Ryan Buman, a member of Des Moines Backyard Beekeepers, said that saving swarms is important for the ecosystem.

“With bees, we need them to pollinate because if we don’t, if we lose bees, we lose the human race within five years,” Buman said.
