1 dead, 1 injured in shooting at Iowa hotel

DES MOINES, Iowa (WHO) — Police are investigating a deadly shooting early Wednesday morning at a hotel on the south side of Des Moines.

A call came in from the Ramada at 1810 Army Post Road around 4:29 a.m., according to Sgt. Paul Parizek with the Des Moines Police Department. When officers arrived they found two adult males who had been shot. One of them was deceased.

The other man had multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to the hospital. He remains hospitalized.

Sgt. Parizek said there is a lot of evidence for detectives to work with at the hotel. “It looks like everyone involved in this incident knows each other, in one way or another,” he said.

Information about possible suspects in the shooting has not been released but police said there’s no danger to the public.

A recent uptick in shootings has been disappointing for police.

“You know we made it through the first quarter of the year with a remarkable decline in confirmed shooting incidents in the city. So, it’s a little troubling that we are seeing this in the succession that we have. So, our officers are going to continue to do their work on the streets and our detectives are going to continue to work on these cases. But we’re actually in a better spot this year than we were last year, it’s just too bad that we have a couple of families that are suffering,” said Sgt. Parizek.

The shooting comes exactly one week after Des Moines’ first homicide of the year .
