BURLINGTON, ND — As the spring sports postseason approaches, Des Lacs-Burlington Lewis and Clark Softball hopes to make a return trip to state.

The Lakers almost knocked off the eventual state champion Beulah in the quarterfinals, falling in a one run game to the Miners.

This year’s DLBLC squad has continued the program’s winning ways, sitting at 13-2 on the season for a team that’s focused on playing together.

We have really good communication with each other. Lots of bonding for our team. We just work really well together and I think that’s a big thing,” Sophomore Elyssa Lindahl said.

“Working in practice every day. Our team bonding and chemistry. Being loud in the dugout is a factor. Working hard in practice, listening to our coaches. Not being afraid to make mistakes,” Senior Zannah Bjerklie said.

The Lakers only losses have come to fellow top teams in the state Renville County and May Port-CG, and those matchups help the team prepare for regionals and state.

It definitely helps when we play some more advanced teams, so then we’re more confident playing other teams, because we know we can still do it,” Sophomore Logen Ystaas said.

“It’s a lot better when we face a team multiple times. We know what to expect and it’s not just going into playing a tough team just blindsided,” Lindahl said.
