BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A local group of volunteers was awarded grant funding for creating a new community park.

The Klee Foundation held its grantee reception event last week and awarded the Deposit Community Park with the Volunteer Recognition Award.

The award includes a $2,500 grant to continue to develop the park.

The Deposit Community Park came to be through a passionate group of local volunteers who wanted to create a safe gathering space for everyone.

Through fundraising efforts, and grants from organizations such as the Klee Foundation, the park features a playground, picnic area, and baseball field.

“The Deposit Community Park is just a fantastic group of volunteers that believe in their community, love their community, wanted to create something that all generations could enjoy. And with our award this year, we really wanted to spotlight that volunteer driven effort that couldn’t happen without people just giving their time, giving their energy and their talents, to create something special,” said Executive Director of the Klee Foundation Amanda McIntyre.

The Deposit Community Park holds several community events in the Spring and Summer such as River Fest, and Arts in the Park.
