The Broncos have brought in competition for punter Riley Dixon.

Denver on Wednesday signed free-agent punter Trenton Gill, who played for Chicago the past two seasons. Gill was waived by the Bears two weeks ago after they selected punter Tory Taylor in the fourth round of the draft.

To make room on the 90-man offseason roster for Gill, the Broncos waived defensive back Cam Allen, who was signed last week as an undrafted free agent out of Purdue and received a $5,000 signing bonus. Allen participated in last weekend's rookie minicamp.

Gill, 25, was a seventh-round pick by the Bears in 2022 out of North Carolina State. In two seasons as their punter, he averaged 46.1 yards gross and 38.5 yards net.

After originally playing for Denver from 2016-17, Dixon, 30, returned to the team last season. He averaged 46.3 yards gross and 41.5 yards net.

    Preseason schedule out

On the same day the regular-season schedule came out, the Broncos on Wednesday announced their 2024 preseason schedule.

The Broncos will open the preseason at Indianapolis at 11 a.m. MDT on Aug. 11 on KTVD in what is in line to be the debut for rookie quarterback Bo Nix. They then will have home games against Green Bay at 6 p.m. on Aug. 18 on KUSA and against Arizona at 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 25 on CBS.

    Singleton, Meinerz in cornhole event

Broncos linebacker Alex Singleton and guard Quinn Meinerz will take a break from offseason drills to try their hand at cornhole.

Singleton and Meinerz will compete in an American Cornhole League charity event Saturday night at The Expo at World Market Center in Las Vegas. The event is open to the public and the celebrity portion will be televised live at 11 p.m. MDT on ESPN2.

The event features eight NFL players who will be paired with cornhole pros. Others players competing will be Steven Sills and Tim Settle of Houston, A.J. Cole and Alexander Mattison of Las Vegas and Arden Key and L’Jarius Sneed of Tennessee.

    Summers to join Jaguars

Linebacker Ty Summers, who attended Denver's rookie minicamp as a tryout player, will sign as a free agent with Jacksonville, a source said.

The five-year veteran was not offered a deal by the Broncos after the minicamp. He returns to Jacksonville, where he spent much of 2022 on the Jaguars' practice squad.
