DALLAS, T.X. -- On Tuesday night, the Colorado Avalanche faced off against the Dallas Stars for Game 1 of Round 2 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

After 20 minutes, the Stars had a 3-0 lead, with Jamie Benn earning two points. Over the following two periods, the Avalanche clawed their way back.

Their star players stepped up, with Cale Makar scoring one goal and adding two assists, while Nathan MacKinnon tied the game in the third period.

The Avalanche's efforts set the stage at American Airlines Center for one player to emerge as the Game 1 overtime hero.

"(Andrew) Cogliano zooms it ahead. Wood with speed. Wood drives in. Backhand. Score! Miles Wood! The hero in overtime!"

With 8:57 seconds remaining in overtime, former Devils winger Miles Wood shot the puck past opposing goaltender Jake Oettinger, giving his team a 1-0 series lead.

As DNVR Avalanche's Meghan Angley reported , "Miles Wood scored the 1st playoff overtime goal of his career, a feat his father, Randy Wood, achieved during Game 6 of the 1995 Conference Quarterfinals with Toronto. The two became the sixth father-son duo in NHL history to each net the overtime winner in a postseason contest."
