DENVER ( KDVR ) – On Monday morning, strong winds blew over an overhead sign on Interstate 25, which hit a semi truck and blocked the roadway for hours.

Colorado State Patrol told FOX31 that the call came in just after 4:30 a.m. with a report of a semi struck by a green overhead sign, which disabled the semi.

Denver weather: Gusty winds and cooler temps, mountain snow

This shut down all lanes of traffic between 58th Avenue and Interstate 70 for about an hour, leaving three lanes still blocked by 6 a.m. and around an hour’s worth of traffic delays.

Crews were seen cutting off about 3 feet of the pole to open up lanes, and then they planned on dragging the rest of the pole off the roadway.

Just after 6 a.m., Adams County Fire posted a video of crews moving the sign off the roadway.

Cars were eventually able to move through, but this still caused massive morning delays. This not only led to parking lot traffic on I-25 but also slowdowns on alternate routes.

Adams County Fire attributed the crash to the wind. The Colorado Department of Transportation said that while wind was present at the time, they are conducting a thorough investigation into what caused the structure to fall.
