DENNIS — John Terrio was re-elected to the Select Board for a full three-year term in the Dennis town election Tuesday with 1,611 votes. He was on the board after running last year for an unexpired one-year term, defeating Wayne Bergeron.

Terrio, who has been active in the community for many years, previously served three other full terms on the Select Board.

In a light turnout, Dennis voters also passed a $2.9 million Proposition 2 1/2 override for the purchase of a Pierce aerial fire truck to replace a 30-year-old ladder truck and an ambulance. The vote was 1,274 to 502. Select Board member Jim Plath, who strongly supported the ballot question, said at the town meeting that the override may not be necessary if other funding for the truck is found in the next two or three years.

Who was elected water commissioner in Dennis

The only contested race was for water commissioner with Select Board Vice Chairman Paul McCormick defeating former select board members Robert Mezzadri and Kent Morgan Sargent. McCormick drew 1,102 votes, Mezzadri, 460 and Sargent, 363. McCormick lost a 2022 contested race for the position in a close vote to Robert Perry. The water district commissioner aids the Dennis Water District in its duties of supplying, overseeing and regulating water to the town of Dennis.

John E. New won the uncontested open seat on the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School Committee that was vacated by longtime member John Tierney, pulling in 1,688 votes.

William Bohlin regained his seat the Old King’s Highway District Commission where he currently serves as chairman. There were no other candidates and he garnered 1,066 votes. Only voters on the north side of Route 6 cast ballots for that position.

Town Clerk Teresa Bunce won another three-year term as town clerk and William Crowell was elected Water District moderator.

The unofficial election results posted by Bunce showed a 15.3% turnout of the 13,098 eligible Dennis voters, or 2,016 total voters.
