Two Cities, Two Listings-Data Lawsuits, Same Week: The Real Estate Industry’s Data Wars Are Going National
A federal judge in Chicago ruled Tuesday in favor of Midwest Real Estate Data, the Chicago area's multiple listing service, and Compass, denying Zillow's request for a preliminary injunction and dissolving a temporary restraining order that had been in place since May. U.S. District Judge John J. Tharp Jr.'s ruling caps, at least for now, a four-month antitrust battle that began after MRED cut off Zillow's and Trulia's access to Chicagoland listings for several days this spring, a move MRED said followed a material breach of its licensing agreement with the portal. MRED called the decision "an important victory" not just for itself but "for MLSs, brokers, and the cooperative marketplace nationwide."
