    Deerfield softball sits in third place in the Trailways-South Conference standings after 2-2 week

    An RBI groundout from Maddie Koutsky broke a 4-4 tie in a Palmyra-Eagle 5-4 win over the Deerfield softball team on Friday, May 10 at Palmyra-Eagle High School.

    Koutsky drove in Briahna Covarrubias in the fifth inning after Deerfield scored two runs which had tied the game. After the Panthers took the lead, the Palmyra-Eagle pitching staff took over.

    Teagan Koutsky left a Deerfield runner stranded at second base in the sixth inning and Brooklyn West retired the Demons in order in the seventh inning. Teagan Koutsky earned the win, while West recorded the save.

    For Palmyra-Eagle, Covarrubias hit a two-run triple to score Teagan Koutsky and Presley Koss in the third. Covarrubias then scored on an RBI single from West. In the fourth, Teagan Koutsky scored Ashlin Adsit on an RBI single.

    For Deerfield, junior Addison Klein scored junior Rylee Betthauser on an RBI single and junior Lydia Mack scored freshman Nevaeh Schears on an RBI double in the third.

    In the fifth, Klein drove in junior Cora Nelson on a sacrifice fly out and Mack hit an RBI single to score sophomore Rowan Lasack. Klein pitched six innings, recording four strikeouts in the loss.

    Deerfield is 13-8 on the season and third in the Trailways-South Conference with a record of 11-5.

    Deerfield 19, Dodgeland/Hustisford 1

    The Deerfield softball team scored 11 runs in the top of the first inning to cruise to a 19-1 win over Dodgeland/Hustisford on Thursday, May 9 at Dodgeland High School.

    Junior Cora Nelson led the Demons, hitting two triples, recording a walk, driving in three runs and scoring three runs as well.

    Sophomore Riley Fisher and junior Addison Klein also drove in three runs as well with Fisher going 2x3 with two runs scored. Klein hit a triple, had two walks and scored three runs.

    Junior Lydia Mack and sophomore Rowan Lasack each scored three runs and added two RBIs. Freshman Mia Haberkorn also drove in two runs, while juniors Saige LaChance and Rylee Betthauser each recorded an RBI.

    Klein pitched two innings in the win, recording two strikeouts. Freshman Sydney Kind recorded an inning in the circle, throwing one strikeout.

    Johnson Creek 11, Deerfield 2

    After a scoreless first three innings, the Johnson Creek offense found its groove late.

    The Bluejays scored four in the fourth, two in the fifth, four in the sixth and one in the seventh to earn an 11-2 win over the Demons on Wednesday, May 8 at Deerfield High School.

    Marlie Benz led Johnson Creek with four RBIs, hitting a double and a triple. Jenna Fincutter hit a home run for Johnson Creek, recording three RBIs.

    For Deerfield, sophomore Lily Betthauser hit a solo home run and junior Lydia Mack drove in junior Addison Klein on an RBI single.

    Klein pitched a complete game, recording eight strikeouts.

    Deerfield 16, Rio 0

    The entire lineup recorded a hit in a Deerfield softball 16-0 win over Rio on Monday, May 6 at Deerfield High School.

    Junior Addison Klein led the Demons with three RBIs, going 2x2 with a double. Junior Lydia Mack, junior Rylee Betthauser, junior Cora Nelson, sophomore Lily Betthauser and freshman Mia Haberkorn all recorded two RBIs.

    Sophomore Riley Fisher and sophomore Rowan Lasack each recorded an RBI, while senior Chloe Moore and junior Saige LaChance recorded at least one hit. All 10 players also scored at least one run.

    Klein pitched three innings, recording seven strikeouts and allowing zero hits.
