RaeAnn Drummond sets Airport career record for extra-base hits

DEERFIELD – Karter Stubleski twirled a two-hit shutout to help Erie Mason salvage the back end of a doubleheader against Britton Deerfield Saturday, winning 4-0.

Xavier Wise and Collin Brooks had two hits each and Vaughn Brown drove in two runs for the Eagles.

Mason took the lead in the first game with a three-run sixth inning, but Britton-Deerfield answered with three in the bottom of the inning for a 4-3 win.

Brown had a two-run double for Mason.

PREP BASEBALL

Hernandez drives in six

FLAT ROCK – Anthony Hernandez went 3-for-4 with six RBI to power Flat Rock to a 10-7 win over Taylor in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday.

Ty Bergeron also logged three hits. Mike Giroux and Jayden Yancy added two apiece.

Evan Szalay went 3-for-4 and drove in four runs as Flat Rock won the second game 13-12. Giroux also collected three hits.

“A sweep against Taylor is a good day,” Flat Rock coach Josh Godfrey said.

Mills powers sweep

CARLETON – Jack Mills rang up four hits, two home runs and nine RBI as Airport swept Belleville 15-0 and 8-1 Saturday.

Winning pitcher Seth Jones went 2-for-3 and two RBI in the first game. Jayden Harper-Lewis logged two hits and two RBI in the second for the 8-4 Jets.

O’Hara tosses shutout

NEW BOSTON – Gavin O’Hara threw a shutout and was supported by a three-run homer by Myles Grace in a 7-0 win over Detroit Edison Saturday.

Grace finished with three hits and four RBI.

Huron (15-2) dropped the first game 3-2 despite strong pitching from Cash Moczydlowsky.

PREP SOFTBALL

Drummond sets record

GENOA, Ohio – RaeAnn Drummond broke the school record for career extra-base hits during Airport’s split with Genoa Saturday.

The Jets fell 7-3 in the first game and took the second 21-3.

Drummond, who set the school record for extra-base hits in a season with 27 last spring, ran her career total to 54. She had three hits in the second game and was the winning pitcher with 12 strikeouts in five innings.

Kennady Kroll had four hits in that game and Kendelyn Kozma-Barnett picked up her first varsity hit. Olivia Tilley recorded two hits in each game.

Wet fields forced the Jets to cancel its John Warren Invitational. A doubleheader at Genoa was arranged instead.

TRACK AND FIELD

Hurdlers lead Mules

TOLEDO – Bedford’s team of Caleb Agius, Trent Smithson, Alex Mapes and Sawyer Ulery won the shuttle-hurdle relay at the Toledo St. Francis Relays Friday.

The Mules were second in the 6,400-meter (Cameron Varner, Dane Hieronimus, Nick Balla, Jack Durivage) and pole vault (Alex Beck, Cain Cole) relays.

PREP LACROSSE

Duo powers Bedford

DEARBORN – Brady Weirich racked up five goals and an assist and Blake Dlugosielski scored four times to lead Bedford to a 10-9 victory over Dearborn Divine Child Friday.

Brennan McIntire added a goal and three assists and Cameron Barber was credited with an assist as Bedford capped a 3-0 week that included a 12-11 win over Saline and a 10-7 triumph over Ann Arbor Skyline.

FRESHMAN BASEBALL

Bedford, Whiteford split

TEMPERANCE – Landon Sparks, Cashton Sedlar and Keagan Dixon had multi-hit games as Bedford’s freshman split a doubleheader against Whiteford’s junior varsity Saturday.
