Book takes deep dive into history of Decatur staple

DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) — The Princess Theatre is one of those iconic places where you can chart your family’s history with why they were there.

A first date. Your child’s first play. You had a great Aunt who listened to George Washington Carver there. Your sister, in my case, got stuck taking me to the Princess to see Viva Las Vegas which featured a guy named Elvis and the stunningly beautiful Ann-Margaret.

The Princess in Decatur began as a livery stable back in 1887.   Since then it’s morphed into a theatre, survived a couple of near-death experiences, and now is an important stop for everything from theatre companies to comedians to musicians.

There is a book titled The Princess Theatre. A Grand Ole Dame. It is a deep dive into the history of an important building in not just Decatur’s history, but also the state of Alabama.
