Celebrating Black History Month with local icon Charlye Farris
WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) - Today we are celebrating Black History Month with a local icon that made an impact in the community. Charlye Farris who was born on June 30, 1929, in Wichita Falls, where she also graduated from a local high school, Booker T. Washington as the valedictorian. She later went on to pursue her degree in political science in 1948 from Historically Black College or University Prairie View A&M college. After finishing up school she then went on to become the first African American to practice law not only in Wichita County, but in the state of Texas.
