DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — Dayton Children’s Hospital is opening an emotional well-being center on its campus by uniting several pre-established mental health care programs.

The center is opening as a new month begins.

May marks Mental Health Awareness Month and according to a media release, the goal of the Center for Emotional Wellbeing is to “promote positive mental, emotional, behavioral and physical health development in children and adolescents.”

Dayton Children’s is bringing together eight mental health wellbeing programs to heighten the potential impact of the center. These programs range from clinic-based to home-based.

The center’s Director Sue Fralick spoke on the urgency of cultivating a healthy wellbeing — in children specifically — as well as highlighting the programs that the center has in store.

“The programs go beyond the hospital’s walls to meet children where they are,” Fralick said. “The center’s 100-plus employees serve children and families wherever there’s a need— at home, in school and at local pediatrician offices. We provide support, education and skill-building early on to prevent crisis situations in the future that are more challenging and expensive to treat.”
