Weekend snowfall and unseasonal workweek heat
A subtle upper-level disturbance has led to weak snow showers and flurries in portions of the Oklahoma Panhandle and northern TX Panhandle this morning and early afternoon. These snow showers should begin to weaken and decrease in coverage by noon and early afternoon as temperatures gradually climb above freezing. In the best-case scenario, snowfall accumulations in the northern viewing areas are expected to remain relatively light, ranging from a trace to 1-2 inches at most. A dramatic warm-up will transpire across the High Plains starting Sunday as a deep ridge coupled with robust downslope flow hovers over the region for the better part of next week. Unseasonal temperatures in the 60’s and 70’s are likely through the workweek and possibly encroaching into next weekend. Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to be especially warm, with a high-temperature forecast in the upper 70’s and appreciable potential for low 80’s across the southeast and Canadian River Valley. In addition to the anomalously warm conditions, the potent down sloping winds will abet in mixing strong winds to the surface, promoting blustery conditions through the work week.
