DANVILLE, Va. ( WFXR ) — The Danville Fire Department is reminding residents to properly remove smoking materials and ensure all smoking alarms are working after a house fire on Monday afternoon.

Around 1 p.m. on April 29, firefighters in Danville were called to the 200 block of Broad Street for a house fire. When firefighters arrived, they found the back porch in flames.

The Danville Fire Department says the fire was extinguished and the smoke was removed from the house. As a result of the fire, the porch and side of the home sustained minor damage.

After investigating the scene, the Fire Marshal determined the blaze was caused by discarded smoking material.

Fire officials confirmed that the residents were not displaced.
