DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — A Danville man is under arrest after police said he led officers on a chase in a stolen car Tuesday afternoon. An officer was hurt during that chase but they are expected to be okay.

The chase started around 4:51 p.m. when Danville Police officers spotted a stolen Volkswagen Jetta driving in the area of Williams and Griffin Streets. Officers tried to pull the car over, but officials said the driver — identified as 29-year-old Stephen Reed — refused to stop.

During the chase, officials said a police car hit a curb in an alleyway off Griffin Street and was disabled. The officer driving that car was treated at the hospital for a fractured wrist.

The pursuit continued to the area of Main Street and Brewer Road, where the chase ended after the Jetta hit a Ford Flex. The two people inside the Flex were evaluated by medical personnel on the scene of the crash and they did not have to go to the hospital.

Reed was arrested at the scene of the crash. He’s been charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, aggravated fleeing and eluding, reckless endangerment and criminal damage to property.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
