DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — Danville Police have investigated a student who brought a weapon to threaten another student at an elementary school.

Police officials said the Danville School District sent the following email to the families of Mark Denman Elementary School Wednesday:

“Today a weapon was brought to school and a student threatened to use it against another student. No other students were in the area when the incident occurred. Our safety protocol was followed, and staff responded quickly and secured the threat. The incident is being investigated by law enforcement and disciplinary action has been taken.  The safety of your children is always our number one priority.“

Police officials would not say what the weapon was, but confirmed it was not a gun. School resource officers investigated the incident and believe there are no further threats or safety concerns related to the situation.

The police department thanked the school district for acting quickly.

“We appreciate the professional relationship and will continue to work together as a team for the betterment of our youth and their families,” the department said in a news release.

WCIA also confirmed the elementary school faced an additional incident on Friday, where a student brought a toy gun to school. In an email to families, Sollars said there was never any threat to students or staff and appropriate disciplinary actions were taken.

Police were not notified of the toy gun situation, an official with the department said.
