The Edmonton Oilers celebrates center Connor McDavid (97) scoring the game-winning goal against the Dallas Stars during the second overtime period in Game 1 of the Western Conference Final of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs at American Airlines Center.

Connor McDavid did not miss this one.

The Edmonton Oilers' star tipped in a pass from defenseman Evan Bouchard 32 seconds into to the second overtime period to give the Oilers a 3-2 win over the Dallas Stars on Thursday night in Game 1 of the Western Conference Final at American Airlines Center in Dallas.

It was McDavid's third goal of the playoffs and he also had an assist. He is second in playoff scoring to teammate Leon Draisaitl with 20 assists and 23 points.

Game 2 is Saturday at 8 p.m. ET.

With 5:21 left in the first overtime, McDavid had the puck alone in front of the Stars net but was thwarted by a stick save by Dallas goaltender Jake Oettinger.

The first OT period has began badly for McDavid. He accidentally high-sticked the Stars' Matt Duchene in the face, drawing blood, and received a double minor just 17 seconds into the extra time.

Jason Robertson hit the goal post twice from the left circle less than a minute into the period on that power play.

Zach Hyman also had a goal and an assist and Draisaitl also scored for Edmonton. Stuart Skinner made 31 saves. Draisaitl has 25 points (nine goals and 16 assists) in the playoffs and Bouchard is third with 21 points (five goals and 16 assists).

Tyler Seguin's second goal of the game tied the game 2-2 for Dallas with 3:23 left in regulation. He put a one-touch, cross-crease pass from Evgenii Dadonov into the empty side of the net. It was Seguin's fifth goal of the playoffs.

Oettinger stopped Dylan Holloway on a partial breakaway with a pad save a few seconds later.

Draisaitl gave the Oilers a 1-0 lead when he put in loose puck from the bottom of the right circle 58 seconds into the second period. He has least a point in all of the Oilers' 13 playoff games.

Hyman made it 2-0, at 4:17. He won a puck battle with Stars defenseman Chris Tanev in front of the net and slid a shot between Oettinger's pads. It was Hyman's playoff-leading 12th goal.

Stuart Skinner had stopped Esa Lindell from slot at the other end seconds earlier.

Seguin put Dallas on the board  6:11 into the middle period. He put the puck into an open net to capitalize on a giveaway by Edmonton defenseman Brett Kulak.

Dallas center Roope Hintz missed his third game with an upper-body injury.
