The Dallas Stars won a critical Game 5 against the Vegas Golden Knights while the Edmonton Oilers finished off the Los Angeles Kings in Game 5.

The Dallas Stars beat the Vegas Golden Knights 3-2 to take a 3-2 series lead

The Golden Knights put themselves ahead early but quick responses by Evgenii Dadonov and Matt Duchene gave the Stars the lead. William Carrier was able to tie the game in the first period. In the second, Tyler Seguin received a two-minute penalty for an illegal check to the head on Shea Theodore. Alex Pietrangelo was later given a two-minute roughing penalty for hitting Seguin in the face with his forearm. Jason Robertson gave the Stars a 3-2 lead on the ensuing power play. Chandler Stephenson was sent in on a breakaway late in the third period but was turned away by Jake Oettinger. Oettinger has been stellar since a rough Game 1 performance.

The Edmonton Oilers held on to win 4-3 over the Los Angeles Kings and eliminate them in five games

The Oilers took the lead in the first period thanks to Evander Kane's second goal of the playoffs. Alex Laferriere responded by scoring his first career playoff goal with 28 seconds remaining in the first period. The Kings took the lead early in the second period before the Oilers took over. Leon Draisaitl scored twice and Zach Hyman scored his seventh goal of the playoffs. Adrian Kempe made it a one-goal game late in the third but it wasn't enough for the Kings to comeback. The Oilers have now eliminated the Kings in the first round for the third consecutive year. The Oilers will play the winner of the Vancouver Canucks and Nashville Predators series.

The Boston Bruins will have the opportunity to clinch their series tonight with a win in Game 6.
