City Council approves new home contractor

The Morris County city council approved the hiring of contractor JSG Homes LLC for the Daingerfield home program.

The contractor is based out of Atlanta, TX and has already built several homes for the Morris County home program. They have also built homes in Hughes Springs, Pittsburg, and Cass County.

A representative for KBB Consulting, Kathy Boils, was present at the meeting and said, “ The TDHCA, the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs, funds the program. They have a maximum of about $135 per square foot they can spend per house.”

Also approved was the act to elect judges to set pay scales for the general and local elections. There was also unanimous approval for a joint election agreement between the City of Daingerfield, Daingerfield Lone Star Independent School District, City of Lone Star, and Northeast Texas Community College.

City Secretary Michelle Jones said, “ This is standard form. When folks change seats, we want to make sure we have the right presiding officer.”

Another item on the agenda was the act to declare an unopposed candidate in the May 4th, 2024 general election elected to office and canceling the general election. The candidates for the past year were all unopposed and it was declared a standard cancellation. However, there will still be two special elections. This was passed with all councilors in favor.

Other agenda items discussed during the meeting were wastewater line easement, animal shelter concerns, property taxes, and future water development projects.
