North Canton City Schools hires new athletic director

AKRON, Ohio — An investigation is underway after a man robbed a Walgreens in Akron at knifepoint. Akron man sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to 2021 murder of Lyft driver
AKRON, Ohio — Kahlyl Powe, the Akron man who pleaded guilty to shooting and killing a Lyft driver back in 2021, was sentenced to life in prison on Thursday afternoon. Summit County Common Pleas Judge Alison McCarty handed down the sentence during an emotional hearing. Powe will be eligible for parole after serving 19 years in prison.

The University of Akron has named a new president, R.J. Nemer, the dean of the university’s College of Business since 2022. His appointment, and the resignation of former president Gary Miller, were approved by university trustees in a 9-0 vote Wednesday afternoon.
