Chronicle catches strays on sewer flap
If you read last week’s issue of the Chronicle, you saw the story across the top of the front page written by John Hult of South Dakota Searchlight that told of how the Preserve French Creek group took its opposition to the City of Custer’s plan to discharge city effluent into French Creek to the South Dakota Supreme Court.
Pool feasibility discussed
A meeting was held last Thursday to understand potential yearly operational costs for the coming Custer Community Campus. The project is led by Tallgrass Landscape Architecture of Custer. Owners Matt Fridell and Tanya Olson gave the presentation and then led attendees through an exercise to better understand operational costs and how that will impact what kind of facility may be affordable on a year-over-year basis. It was noted this meeting is solely about yearly operational costs and would not cover the construction cost of the facility.

List of Mini Golf Courses in the Black Hills
Mini-golf season is in full swing for South Dakota. Here’s a list of mini-golf courses in the Black Hills. Located at Deadwood Comfort Inn and Suites, this 18-hole course is themed around a mining town in the Old West. Players are taken through a colorful environment featuring a mining cart track, high-spraying geyser fountains and a house with a water wheel. Players can spin the Western Spinners on some holes to be assigned extra instructions. For instance, if the spinner lands on “Tombstone”, the player’s opponent will stand on the course and act as an extra obstacle to play around.
Golfers third at Black Hills Conference
The Custer girls golfers teed off at the Hart Ranch Golf Course Monday for the Black Hills Conference Tournament. All told, the team earned third place with combined score of 425, behind Spearfish (378) and St. Thomas More (365). Also placing was Belle Fourche with 457 and Rapid City Christian with 500.

Mount Rushmore set to begin summer activities on May 24
KEYSTONE, SD – Mount Rushmore's activity schedule begins May 24 with a variety of interpretive programming and experiences for visitors to choose from. Programs will occur at a variety of locations throughout the day. Visitors can inquire about upcoming events at the Information Center upon arrival to the site. Rangers will also walk the grounds to converse with guests and assist with orientation.
STM girls golfers win BHC Tournament
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) -Top golfers met up at Hart Ranch for the Black Hills Conference championships on Monday. St. Thomas More finished first as a team, followed by Spearfish and Custer. The Cavs Kaitlin Strain fired a 78 to earn medalist honors.

"HAHA (Hermosa Arts & History Association) was founded in 1999 by Doug Hesnard, June Lee and Rick Mills, when they purchased the old masonic hall from Battle River Lodge. The volunteers of this organization have helped make the building renovations possible. They are hosting an open house, they will have a special historical exhibit honoring mothers, with some small gifts to be given out, and cookies made from vintage recipes.
