Annual cemetery and memorial day services
Caney Baptist Church in Pickton will hold its annual Memorial Day service beginning at 9:45 a.m. Sunday, June 2. The day will begin with coffee, juice and donuts in the fellowship hall, followed by singing and special music. Brother Tom Friday, Caney pastor, will deliver the message, followed by cemetery business. The day will conclude with lunch and fellowship. Families and friends of those buried in the Caney Cemetery are especially encouraged to attend. Caney Baptist Church is located south of Pickton on County Road 2408.

After a night of severe storms, heat index to reach triple-digits in North Texas
NORTH TEXAS – After a deadly round of severe weather in North Texas Saturday night, the weather for the rest of Memorial Day weekend should be much calmer.More storms moved through the region early Sunday morning with gusty winds and small hail. A wind advisory is in place today for East Texas.This afternoon will be much quieter, with sunny skies and temperatures nearing record highs. High humidity will bring the heat index into the triple digits, so please take precautions to stay safe in the heat. Memorial Day will be slightly cooler with temperatures in the mid-90s and lower humidity. It will be a great day for the pool, so remember to wear sunblock and stay hydrated!A few storms are possible in the late afternoon hours. Daily rain and storm chances will continue through next week, with a risk of flooding later in the week.
