COOPER — The District 15/16-2A track and field meet was recently held at Cooper High School. The three Hopkins County schools in the Area round — Como-Pickton, Cumby, and North Hopkins — would all have success at the meet.
COMO-PICKTON
The Como-Pickton Eagles and Lady Eagles had multiple strong performances at the Area meet.
On the boys side, Cade Childress earned two bronze medals, placing third in both the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:16, and in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:44. Sean Carpenter also won a bronze medal in the discus throw, placing third with a distance of 108 feet, eight inches.
For the girls side, Saylor Smith highlighted the day by earning a gold medal in the 100-meter dash, placing first with a time of 13.15 seconds.
Raleigh Sproles earned a silver medal in the high jump, placing second with a height of four feet, 10 inches. Sproles also placed sixth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 20.14 seconds.
Aubrey Martinez took third place in the pole vault with a height of five feet, six inches, earning a bronze medal.
Shyann Wetzel placed third in the triple jump with a height of 30 feet, 6.5 inches. She also placed fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 29.43 seconds.
The 4x100-meter relay team, consisting of Brooklyn Icenhower, Faith Gilbreath, Smith, and Sadie Wetzel and placed third with a time of 54.29 seconds.
The 4x200-meter relay team, consisting of Journey Brumley, Smith, Sadie Wetzel, and Shyann Wetzel placed third with a time of 1:55. Brumley also placed fifth in the high jump with a height of four feet, six inches.
Brittney Quinonez placed fourth in the discus throw with a distance of 77 feet, three inches. Quinonez also placed sixth in the shot put throw with a distance of 29 feet, 2.5 inches.
Janey Stokley finished fourth in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 6:33. Stokley also took sixth place in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 15:28.
Mhia Garcia placed fifth in the discus throw with a distance of 76 feet, seven inches. Bianca Guerrero would earn fifth in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 14:49. Evelyn Vasquez-Ramirez would place fifth in the long jump with a distance of 14 feet, one inch.
CUMBY
The Cumby Trojans and Lady Trojans both represented their school well.
On the boys side, Chett Vaughan earned two medals: earning a silver medal in the triple jump with a distance of 40 feet, seven inches, and a bronze medal in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:15.
Dakari Johnson also earned a silver medal, placing second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.56 seconds. Braylon Boggs earned a bronze medal in the 100-meter dash, placing third with a time of 11.69 seconds.
The 4x200-meter relay team, consisting of Boggs, Gunner Campbell, Jace Evans, and Channing Herman placed fourth with a time of 1:38.
The 4x400-meter relay team, consisting of Evans, Herman, Johnson, and Vaughan placed fourth with a time of 3:50.
The 4x100-meter relay team, consisting of Boggs, Evans, Justin Green, and Herman placed sixth with a time of 46.87 seconds.
On the girls side, Gaby Osornio earned a silver medal in the 1,600-meter run, placing second with a time of 6:30.
The 4x400-meter relay team, consisting of Lilly Campbell, Chloe Groves, Selina Hammel, and Osornio placed third with a time of 4:37, earning a bronze medal.
Campbell placed fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:48. Groves took fourth place in the triple jump with a distance of 30 feet, three inches.
The 4x200-meter relay team, consisting of Kinslee Dowdle, Groves, Kaitlan Hammack, and Jacie Morales placed sixth with a time of 1:59.
NORTH HOPKINS
The North Hopkins Panthers and Lady Panthers had three representatives at the Area meet.
Ashley Shipman placed fourth in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 14:36. She also placed sixth in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 6:43.
Eden Lewis placed fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:08.
Juan Gonzalez placed sixth in both the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:27, and in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 12:54.
The next meet is the Regional meet, which will be April 19 and 20 at Porcupine Stadium in Springtown.
