Former Cumberland teacher convicted of child molestation

LINCOLN, R.I. (WPRI) — A former Cumberland teacher has been found guilty of sexually assaulting three girls under the age of 14, according to R.I. Attorney General Peter Neronha.

After a seven-day trial, the jury found 34-year-old Nicholas Oliveira guilty of three counts of second-degree child molestation.

The victims were all known to him and were sexually assaulted multiple times between July 2016 and December 2017, according to Neronha.

Neronha said Oliveira has also been charged with first-degree child molestation in Connecticut , but that case is still pending.

Oliveira, who has since been terminated, was placed on administrative leave prior to his arrest .
