CULLMAN, Ala. – Calling all golf tournament enthusiasts – the Chesley Oaks Open will return Friday and Saturday, May 10-11, for the first time since 2019.

Chesley Oaks has undergone somewhat of an overhaul in the past few seasons, with new owners David and Shirley Chastain completing updates and upgrades to the course and greens.

One of the Open’s organizers, Marty Hardman, spoke about the rebirth of the competition, sharing how a fun, lighthearted conversation about attendance at the course put a plan in motion.

Hardman shared, “Mark Eddy, one of my golfing buddies, he came up to me and asked about holding the Chesley Oaks Open again this year. So, here we are, trying to do it again.”

The tournament will effectively be a “two-in-one” according to Hardman, with a traditional division and a new addition – the senior division. The senior division will showcase the skills of golfers aged 60 and older. Champions from both age groups will be named and the tournament will have a flight in the second round, allowing competitors to effectively boost their chances for a win.

“We will flight that after Saturday’s round, so the guys can play against their own abilities,” Hardman laughed. “Not everyone wants to compete against the Eli Martys.”

Eli Marty is the defending Chesley Oaks Open Champion from 2019. The Good Hope High School alum clinched the title with a 5-under 66 score.

He, along with several other past champions and competitors, are already on the 2024 tournament’s roster.

The event will be held at the Chesley Oaks Golf Course Friday and Saturday, May 10-11. The fee to enter is $125.

Hardman asks interested players to reach out to the Chesley Oaks Golf Course to express interest in participating no later than Monday, May 6, to secure a spot in the lineup.

Chesley Oaks is located at 1035 County Road 1583 and can be reached by phone at 256-796-9808.
