A ribbon cutting was scheduled because it was a big milestone for an important date. “Today is more than a ribbon cutting,” Mar-Dai said to the crowd outside the shop. “Today is six years of Vegans on the Run, and today we're standing in front of a building with our name on it.” Cheers erupted, and Mar-Dai gave out a screech of happiness. Mar-Dai took a moment to reflect back on the journey she began with her daughter and mother, “We sold vegan food wherever to whoever would give us an opportunity to.” The shop will be next to Sipp House, owned by Shika Sims. Together they offer life to the 1800 block of Texas Avenue. “She represents her committee quite well; what an ambassador,” said Karen Barnes from Visit Shreveport-Bossier of Mar-Dai. “I'm excited about the opportunities that she could share and educate our community about vegan.” “You have championed vegan food in this community,” said Councilwoman Tabitha Taylor. “And guess what, people really like

Shreveport sits near a hot spot for methane super emitters. Find out what that means.
For 17 months in 2025 and 2026, the Planet Labs Tanager 1 satellite trained its NASA- designed spectrometer on northwest Louisiana as part of a UCLA Law methane project. What it found was sobering. This “super emitter” site wasn’t the only one. The UCLA Law study pointed to four more nearby owned by Aethon, Energy Transfer, Black Bear Midstream, and Boardwalk Pipeline Partners.
