Two-vehicle head on crash sends two to the hospital
A two vehicle head-on collison at State Highway 111 E and FM 1447 between Yoakum and the Crossroads was reported on the morning of April 22. Traffic was delayed for about an hour. A call came in at 7:59 a.m. to the Yoakum Police Department regarding the accident. Yoakum Emergency Medical Services, Yoakum Volunteer Fire Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Lavaca County Sherrif Office, and the Lavaca County Emergency Medical Services were on the scene. The highway was closed for a medical helicopter to land. One male was transported to the a hospital in Victoria and one male was airlifted by helicopter to a hospital in Kyle. No other reports were provided at press time.
Woman faces charges of theft in DeWitt County
DEWITT COUNTY, Texas - Authorities in DeWitt County have charged Alyssa Danielle Phelps, 37, with tampering with a governmental record and theft. The Texas Education Agency has confirmed it has an open investigation on Phelps who is an educator in the Westhoff ISD. She started working in the district in 2016.

DA prosecutes felony drug case Staff Report Wed, 04/24/2024 - 06:08 Image Body The 24th Judicial District Attorney’s office tried a possession of controlled substance case before a DeWitt County jury last week. Alfredo Villarreal was found guilty of the second degree felony on Tuesday, April 16, and sentenced to 10 years in prison.Assistant District Attorney Benjamin Gray and First Assistant Timothy Poynter tried the case, calling the Cuero Police to testify about the methamphetamine which was found on Villarreal. There was a total 4.43 grams seized during the arrest.The case was heard by the Honorable Julie Bauknight of the 267th Judicial District Court. The defendant faced between two and twenty years in prison.Villarreal went to prison in 2018 for a drug charge. This will be his second trip to prison for drug related charges.
