LORIMOR, Iowa — The area between Winterset and Creston has had more than its share of storm damage over the past few years. Residents could only stand and watch as another wall of ominous dark clouds rolled in Tuesday evening.

No tornados were reported this time but the area around the tiny town of Lorimor in Union County was hammered with golf-ball-sized hail. It dented cars and siding and pounded roofs that had only recently been replaced.

Pam and Montana Bonneville of Union County were on their way home as the storm approached. “She drove us home and we were watching the dark clouds and we were like ‘we better get in!’ And we just got in when it started,”said Pam. “Well, we noticed there’s hail damage on the cars, vehicles and on the siding’s hit pretty hard but we’ll have someone come check the roof, here. We’re calling them now.”

Hail damage from severe weather is nothing new to Ron Fresh of Lorimor. “We’ve been through this, about two years ago we had softball-sized that shattered our windshields and broke our siding and stuff so we were worried we were going to go through round two,” said Fresh.

To wrap things up with an ironic twist, the storm passed, the sky cleared completely, and Union County called it a day, next to a perfect sunset.
