Reports: Mississippi State extends coach Chris Jans
Mississippi State and head coach Chris Jans are in agreement on a contract extension through the 2027-28 season, multiple outlets reported Monday. Jans, 55, gets a bump in salary to $4.2 million for 2024-25, up from $3.2 million last season, per the reports. Jans, who has led Mississippi State to the NCAA Tournament the past two seasons, will enter his third season coaching the Bulldogs. He is 42-27 since arriving in Starkville, Miss. Overall, Jans is 185-71 at Bowling Green State (2014-15), New Mexico State (2017-22) and Mississippi State. He has five NCAA Tournament appearances and was poised for a sixth in 2019-20 at New Mexico State. He led the Aggies to a 25-6 mark and the WAC regular-season title, but the tournament was canceled due to the COVID pandemic. --Field Level Media

On Saturday, Mississippi State did the one thing they could ill afford to do. The Bulldogs lost to Missouri. With a win, State could have likely made the Southeastern Conference a moot point in many respects. Now, it appears the Diamond Dawgs need to win one or possibly two games in Hoover to wrap up an NCAA regional hosting spot.

STARKVILLE --- Saturday's second day of NCAA Tournament regional play was one to forget for Mississippi State softball as the Bulldogs saw their season come to an end. Hours after losing to No. 8 Stanford earlier in the day, Mississippi State bowed out of the Palo Alto regional with a 7-0 loss to Cal State Fullerton Saturday night.

Starkville Academy is adding boys basketball coach to the list of openings at the school in 2024-25. The Starkville Daily News first reported that head coach Brian Merkel is stepping down as head coach this year. Merkel has taken another job opportunity in the sports and academic realm that will be announced at a later date, but the coach will be moving out of high school athletics for now.
Bulldogs still have chip on shoulder heading to Hoover
A few of those trips have been quick, a few of those have ended with a championship dog pile. For the last two seasons, however, those fans have had a void in their hearts. For the first time since 2021, MSU is finally competing again inside the SEC Tournament. The Bulldogs went from missing the tournament two years in a row to finishing the SEC regular season as the No. 5 seed. This came after the Bulldogs were picked to finish last 13th in the league out of 14 teams.

#14 Mississippi State wrapped up the regular season with a series win over Missouri. The Bulldogs did what they had to do, but perhaps not what they needed to do. State is now 17-13 in Southeastern Conference play. An 18th league win would have likely eased some pressure as the team heads to Hoover to open the Southeastern Conference Tournament.

Stephen, Mershon, Jordan represent Diamond Dogs on All-SEC Teams
The Southeastern Conference's tournament opens tomorrow. Today, the league has announced the All-SEC teams for 2024 with a trio Diamond Dogs making the rosters. Starting pitcher Khal Stephen, shortstop David Mershon, and outfielder Dakota Jordan were all selected by votes of the 14 SEC coaches. Stephen and Mershon made the first team, while Jordan was on the second squad.
