MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - EGLE extended the Air Quality Alert into Monday, so the First Alert Weather Day saga continues, but not just for that. Severe thunderstorms will come through the region from roughly 4 p.m. to midnight Tuesday. Heavy rainfall and damaging winds of near 60 mph are the biggest hazards to expect. Large hail and a slim chance of a tornado can also be taken into account for Monday’s storms. Rainfall amounts between 0.5″ - 2″ are possible for central U.P. locations.

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WBUP/WJMN) — Yoopers in Marquette County may be finding themselves a bit out of their element with the extreme heat in the "up north." Here are some tips and cooling centers, courtesy of Marquette County Sheriff's Office. They recommend the following: Slow down. Strenuous activities should be reduced, eliminated, or rescheduled to the coolest time of the day. Individuals at risk should stay in the coolest available place, not necessarily indoors.Dress for summer. Lightweight, light-colored clothing reflects heat and sunlight, and helps your body maintain normal temperatures.Foods (like proteins) that increase metabolic heat production also increase water loss.Drink plenty of water or non-alcoholic fluids. Your body needs water to keep cool. Drink plenty of fluids even if you don't feel thirsty.Do not drink alcoholic beverages.Spend more time in air-conditioned places. Air conditioning in homes and other buildings markedly reduces danger from the heat. If you cannot afford an air conditioner, spending some time each day (during hot weather) in an air conditioned environment affords some protection.Don't get too much sun. Little relief from the heat tonight; hot temperatures return Tuesday

Most of Michigan's Upper Peninsula remains under an Extreme Heat Warning through Tuesday evening. Temperatures Monday Night will stay in the 70s and 80s, offering little relief before high temperatures of 90s to around 100 return Tuesday afternoon. Another hot day on Tuesday. 100+ is possible for the South-Central U.P. Lake breezes may pick up the pace a little, leading to locally cooler temperatures near some shorelines of the Great Lakes. Wednesday the heat continues away from Lake Superior. More of an onshore wind off of Lake Superior will send temperatures in the cooler direction for the Marquette area and closer to the Lake Superior shoreline. Cooler for all by the end of the week with high temperatures returning back into the 70s and 80s. Most U.P. locations will stay dry through Thursday. There is a slight chance of rain or a thunderstorm on Tuesday evening. Most U.P. locations should stay dry though. Better rain chances may show up for Friday and Saturday.
